The roof of a house gives it its final finish and its prime job is to protect the house from the elements. THL has built houses using a number of options available such as Makuti (traditional Swahili thatch), Mabati (corrugated iron sheets), fibre cement roofing sheets, Onduline, flat roof using terrazzo and clay tiles. Naturally, since most of THL’s work is done on the Kenya Coast, Makuti is the product of choice as it fits in well with the environment, is readily available as is made and laid by the local community who have been doing so for generations. Whichever product you chose THL ensures that it is done professionally with our experienced roofing team. THL also repairs damaged roofs on existing houses as part of their maintenance service. Depending on how many floors are intended the ceiling can be a solid concrete slab (for double storey or more). For ceilings which do not need to take weight THL recommends a traditional Swahili ceiling which is attractive and functions perfectly and completely protects the rooms below. Alternatively, and again for a non-weight baring ceiling would be the modern Gypsum ceiling boards on galvanized channels or hardboard on timber slats. Each house is different and THL aims to provide you with the roof and ceiling you desire. |
